Jaé is the electronic ticketing system for public transport in Rio de Janeiro launched in 2023. The platform aims to offer more convenience to users, since several procedures can be done completely digitally, through the application available for Android and iPhone (iOS).

The Jaé card can be purchased at self-service machines at BRT and VLT stations, but it is possible to top up and pay for tickets via QR Code using the app, without the need for a physical card. However, the transition to the new card is being carried out gradually and, therefore, the Jaé card may not yet be accepted on all public transport modes in the city.

Time needed: 5 minutes

Download the “Jaé” app from the app store on your Android or iOS phone;
Click on “First Access” and fill in your full name and date of birth;
Fill in your CPF and click on “I'm not a robot”;
Fill in your mobile number and email address. Then enter the security code sent by SMS and/or email;
Create a password and confirm your identity through a selfie;
That's it! Your account has been set up and is ready to use.

After registering, you can access the platform to view your balance, as well as top up through the app itself, in the “Top Up” section, located at the bottom of the screen. The app accepts different payment methods, such as credit cards, debit cards, bank slips or Pix.

In the virtual environment, it is also possible to associate a separate card, in addition to viewing the order history and the statement of transactions made in the app. In case of doubts, the user can access the app's chat, or go to a service point.
