According to the documents signed by Donald Trump released last Monday (10), the new tariffs on steel and aluminum will be applied from March 12. The extra value will be added only on the raw material purchased abroad. The decree was signed in accordance with the Law 232 of the Trade Expansion Law.

Changes in trade with Brazil

The new tariff measures will directly affect trade between the two countries, as so far Brazil was the main supplier of aluminum and steel in the United States. The application will be 25% and aims to reduce the consumption of foreign raw materials, encouraging internal trade. About 48% of the steel produced in Brazil and 16% of aluminum used to be sold to the United States

So far the Brazilian authorities have not taken any measure in response to Donald Trump's decision. Fernando Haddad, Minister of Finance, denied speculation that claimed that US companies, especially those linked to technology, would be taxed as an answer.

According to the document disclosed, there will be no exceptions or ways to circumvent the tariffs.

World reaction

According to Ursula Von Der Leyen, chairman of the European Commission, Donald Trump's decision will not be unanswered, especially after the efforts to find a mutual solution. In her social networks, the president considered the regrettable and wronged measure. The statement was supported by Olaf Scholz, Chancellor of Germany, one of the world's largest exporters in the world.

“The Canadians will rise strongly and firmly if necessary”said Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, during a rally in Paris where he stated that the new tariffs are unacceptable.

Asia also did not interpret the decision welcomed. South Korea President Choi Sang-Mok said he will seek ways to negotiate a more reasonable measure with the US government, but does not rule out the possibility of South Korean companies to seek trade in other nations.
