Valencia Marathon has record number of entries

Registration for the test sold out seven months in advance

For some years now, the Valencia Marathon has been gaining importance and each year, more people want to run the race, which is characterized by a flat course and excellent weather conditions. Furthermore, the organization recognizes this potential, so much so that it puts a lot of effort into taking top-level athletes to the competition. Just look at what happened there in the 2022 edition: the victorious debut of now, extremely popular, Kelvin Kiptum with 2:01:53, the fourth best time in history, and the Ethiopian Amane Beriso with 2:14:58, third best mark of 42 km.

Today, May 9th, it was announced that the 33,000 places for this year’s test, which will be held on December 3rd, are sold out. I tried to find out how many places there were in the 2022 edition, in which 21,000 runners completed the race, but I was unsuccessful. Is the test really fast, Sérgio? Well, it was the marathon that had the most athletes doing under 3 time in 2022: almost 4 thousand.

Valencia, called the city of running, has a good track record – suffice it to say half-marathon world records have been broken there, like that of the Kenyan Kibiwott Kandie (57:32 in 2020 – beaten by Jacob Kiplimo in a second the following year in Lisbon), that of the Kenyan Joyciline Jepkosgei (1:04:51, 2017) and the current record, which belongs to Ethiopian Letesenbet Gidey1:02:52 in 2021. The second best time is also from there, from second place in the same race as Gidey, also Ethiopian Yalemzerf Yehualaw – 1:03:51.
