Nintendo has announced that 125.62 million Switches have been sold by March 31, 2023, with a total of 17.97 million having been sold in the last fiscal year, meaning the company has fallen short of the initial target of 21 million, which it was later revised to 18 million. Console sales at the end of the year were down 22%.
The company forecasts to sell 15 million consoles during the current fiscal year, which will end on March 31, 2024. This represents an additional 16.5% drop in sales, something expected as the Switch is entering its seventh year in the Marketplace.
Speaking about the results, president Shuntaro Furukawa reportedly suggested that Nintendo isn’t entirely confident it will reach that 15 million sales target.
Even with the arrival of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, many analysts believe that Switch sales should not have a jump in sales in the same way as in the past.
Furthermore, according to BloombergFurukawa stated that there will be no new hardware or hardware upgrades this fiscal year, implying that the Switch’s successor won’t be out until April 2024.
