The last financial report from Activision Blizzard points out that it is making more money from PC games than consoles, with PC outpacing video games by $27 million in Q1 2023.
In the period from January 1st to March 31st, Activision made $666 million from PC games versus $639 million from consoles. Its PC segment also overtook consoles until the middle of last year, although in the end consoles took the lead from PC overall in 2022.
The Activision report points out that it is the 3rd consecutive quarter that the PC is in front of the consoles in the company, something surprising considering that historically Activision has always had consoles in front, even after the purchase of Blizzard in 2008.
Activision attributes its 74% revenue growth on PC to the success of Call of Duty and Overwatch 2, but also highlights higher revenues for World of Warcraft: Dragonflight and Diablo Immortal, which are two games that are not available in video games.
If in 2023 this trend continues, the PC could become Activision’s second main platform in revenue, behind only mobile, which remains very strong thanks to Candy Crush.
