Kardashian is informed just before the release and would have made another attempt to prevent it with the help of the judge. But in the end, she decides to reach a settlement, reportedly for $5 million.
From that moment on, Kardashian’s name becomes more and more famous. That same year, the first episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians comes out and the reality star is indispensable from the tabloids.
According to Steven Hirsch, the director of Vivid Entertainment, the sex tape was just not presented to the company on a golden tray. “They came in with a suitcase on wheels and in it was the tape, which was already perfectly mounted.
I remember thinking: wow, this is well prepared.” Hirsch emphasizes that the images were not brought by Kardashian or another acquaintance of hers.

Yet the rumors are becoming more and more persistent that Kardashian would have played a role in this. And that would even have been done on the initiative of her mother Kris Jenner, who would like to make her daughter better known.
“Kim would have come up with the idea through Paris and thrown it into the group with her family,” writes Ian Halperin, who released a book about the Kardashian family in 2016. “Kris then made that deal with Vivid Entertainment.” All this is denied by the family’s lawyer.
A jump to spring 2022: the new reality show The Kardashians premieres. It shows that Ye, the ex-husband of Kardashian, has had a meeting with Ray J. During that meeting, which took place last year, Ray J would have handed over another tape with images of him and his ex.
Ye took the initiative to the meeting because Ray J’s manager threatened to leak these images. According to Kardashian, Ye also did that to protect their children. She emphasizes that it is not about intimate images and according to Ye, he did not pay Ray J for it.
Kardashian says in the episode also to fear that Ray J has more video footage of them, on which the two can be seen in an intimate setting. That is denied by the singer: “No, Kim has them all. She has always kept them in a shoebox under her bed.”
He insists that Kardashian no longer make these accusations, also because of his children. The reality star later in a comment know that it was “a joke”.
Ray J also states that Kardashian and her mother have sold the images in consultation with him. He is disappointed that his ex continues to insist that he is the only culprit in this story.
“Why are you trying to ruin me when you know I was just one of the people involved? You shouldn’t believe your own lies anymore,” he writes in an angry post on Instagram.
Kardashian responds through her lawyer. “After twenty years, Kim hopes to close this chapter.”
