Taylor Swift Makes History at the 2023 VMAs With Best Director Win

One of the biggest awards ceremonies in the music world is taking place today (12). The Video Music Awards, better known as VMA, is being held for the first time on a Tuesday, directly from New Jersey, in the United States. The 2023 ceremony is being hosted by rapper Nicki Minaj and broadcast on MTV and Pluto TV since 9 pm Brasília time.

The traditional MTV awards show will celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2023, having been held since 1984. Taylor Swift leads the year's nominations with seven categories. Brazilian Anitta will be present among the performances for the second consecutive year at the awards show and the third counting the pre-show, in addition to competing in the category “Best Latin Video” with “Funk Rave”.

Singer Taylor Swift is the winner of the “Best Direction” category for the second time in a row with the single “Anti-Hero” from the album “Midnights”. However, Taylor has already won this award three times in total – in 2019, with “The Man”, 2022, with “All Too Well” and this year, with “Anti-Hero”.

In her second speech of the night, the singer thanked editor Chancler Haynes and director of photography Rina Yang, who accompanied her on stage.

“There’s one thing I’ve learned about directing: it’s definitely a team sport. So I brought my team with me tonight. I’m so lucky to work with such brilliant collaborators.” said Taylor Swift.
