Barcelona is champion of the Women's Champions League

This Saturday afternoon (25), at the San Mamés Stadium, in Bilbao, Spain, Barcelona won the title of champion of the Women's Champions League. This is the third time that the Catalan team has won a European title in its history and the feat was confirmed by beating Lyon, from France, by a score of 2-0.

Champion numbers

Barcelona is the legitimate champion of the Women's Champions League 2024. With 5 wins and 1 draw, the team led by coach Jonatan Giraldez had 16 points and had no defeat in the group stage. In the quarter-final stage, Barça won the first game against Brann 2-1, and won the return game 3-1.

In the semi-final stage, Barcelona lost the first game 1-0 to Chelsea and suffered its first defeat in the championship. In the return game, Barça recovered, beat Chelsea 2-0 and qualified for the grand final.

The game

The match that declared Barcelona champions of the 2024 Women's Champions League was closely contested, but the game's two goals only came in the second half. In the 62nd minute, midfielder Aitana Bonmatí, in an individual play, entered the area and shot, opening the score for Barcelona.

In the 95th minute, midfielder Alexia Putellas received the ball in the area and shot hard with her left leg, giving the final numbers to the match: Barcelona 2 x 0 Lyon.

Post-conquest commitments

After winning the 2024 Women's Champions League title, Barcelona takes a break and only returns to play on June 9, against Real Betis, in a match valid for the 29th round of the Spanish League. With 27 wins and 1 draw, the Catalan team is undefeated in the competition.
