The “Bridgerton” series, written based on the books produced by author Julia Quinn, has undergone changes compared to the literary works, which has been greatly noticed by fans, in particular, the friendship involving the characters Penelope and Lady Danbury, which serves as a guide for the young woman in literature, while in the series, she has this role replaced by Colin Bridgerton, starting to deal with Violet Bridgerton. Given this scenario, Jess Brownell, the production's showrunner, recently had to speak out, explaining the changes made.
What was said by Jess
Firstly, the showrunner reported that she really likes the friendship relationship that exists between Penelope and Lady Danbury, but that despite this, it would be interesting to make these changes to the series, even so that everything doesn't remain 100% the same and give more relevance to Penelope doing a couple with Colin: “We felt like we watched two seasons of Lady Danbury being heavily involved in shaping the main couple and we wanted to give her a story that was more about her, and not just about her being a fringe accessory to someone else's story. We wanted to put her more in the spotlight”said Jess explaining the reason for the differences that were also made based on the other seasons.
Furthermore, she also emphasized that the spin-off series “Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story” was also an influence on the relocation: “We also wanted to pick up on the threads established in Queen Charlotte, which deepened her and Violet's backstory. So it seemed good to connect Violet and Danbury by bringing in the character Marcus Anderson, who follows the plot about Violet wanting to “tend to her garden” while continuing to explore Lady Danbury's backstory more deeply.”revealed Jess.
