Nearly 20 million PlayStation 5 consoles sold,
Sony has sold 19.3 million copies of the PlayStation 5 despite persistent shortages in stores worldwide. More stock is expected in the coming year.
Of the 19.3 million PlayStations sold, 11.5 million were sold in the past fiscal year, the company reports. That’s less than the 14.8 million consoles Sony expected to sell. Although the company had already warned that this would be difficult due to production problems.
In the past quarter, Sony shipped two million PlayStation 5 consoles, reports the company. In the same quarter last year, there were 3.3 million. (Nearly 20 million PlayStation 5 consoles sold)
There is still more demand for the PlayStation 5 worldwide than there is supply. This is largely due to the persistent chip shortage.
Still, Sony expects to be able to sell more consoles this year. The company aims to sell eighteen million copies of the PlayStation 5 in the coming fiscal year (which ends in March 2023).
Sony also announced that online service PlayStation Plus now has 47.4 million users. This is slightly less than a year ago (47.6 million). The number of monthly users has also decreased slightly: from 109 million to 106 million. Any causes have not been mentioned.
