Surprising! Paulo Turra is announced as the new coach of Santos

Paulo Turra is the new coach of Santos. Coach who was at Athletico Paranaense did not take more than a week to be announced by the new club after his dismissal on June 16th.

Turra arrives to replace Odair Hellmann, who was fired after the 2-0 defeat by Corinthians on June 21. The coach’s contract will be for just one year, as Santos is in an election year. Depending on who becomes the new club president, the coach’s contract could be extended.

The coach’s objective upon his arrival at Alvinegro Praiano is to avoid the team’s relegation and, if possible, finish the season within international competitions.

The team’s recent record is not the best, with a sequence of 9 games without winning, with two defeats and three draws for the Brazilian Championship; elimination in the Copa do Brasil for Bahia and, at the moment, third place in Group E of the Copa Sudamericana, with no chance of qualifying for the round of 16.

As coach of Athletico Paranaense, Paulo Turra had, in seven months of work, 26 wins in 36 games, having left the team in eleventh place in the Brazilian Championship and in first place in Group G in the Copa Libertadores, already classified, in addition to being Paraná champion.

In addition to coaching Athletico, Turra has already been head coach at Avaí, Caxias and Cianorte, in addition to being assistant coach at GZ Evergrande, from China; Palm trees; Cruzeiro and Athletico himself, before being officially hired.

The coach should arrive at CT Rei Pelé on Saturday, the eve of the match against Flamengo for the Brasileirão. If Santos is unable to regularize the coach in time for the match, who should lead the team on Sunday is Paulo Roberto Falcão, the team’s football coordinator.

As said, the next match between Santos and Paulo Turra will be on Sunday (25) against Flamengo in Vila Belmiro.
