Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, said during the trial between Microsoft/Activision Blizzard and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) of the United States that is taking place this week, that The Elder Scrolls VI will take five years or more to release and still it is unknown which platforms will receive it.
During his testimony, he was asked about the console exclusivity of Bethesda’s games, including The Elder Scrolls VI. He couldn’t provide a concrete answer on which platforms will receive the game, as even he doesn’t know yet.
“Like I said, with Elder Scrolls VI, it’s still a long way off – it’s hard to understand what platforms it will be at this point,” Spencer said. “It’s the same team that is finishing Starfield, which comes out in September. So we’re talking about a game that will take five years or more to come out.”
It’s unlikely we’ll see The Elder Scrolls VI on PlayStation, but Spencer’s talk suggests the game won’t even come to the Xbox Series. Instead, it will most likely be released for Microsoft’s next console, which may be released in 2028.
If it’s five years or more until The Elder Scrolls VI arrives, that would put it in development for over a decade.
