In a recent conversation with ComicBook, director Louis Leterrier shared information about the sequel project to “The Incredible Hulk” (2008), which ended up being left aside due to the character's integration into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Leterrier revealed that the second film would have introduced both the Red Hulk and the Gray Hulk. The first is a manifestation of the alter-ego of General Thaddeus Ross (played by William Hurt), while the second would represent the darker impulses of Bruce Banner (played by Edward Norton).

When discussing the character's journey since Mark Ruffalo took on the role in the MCU, the director noted the complexity of the Hulk within this expanded universe. Leterrier commented that although fans wanted to see the angry and primal side of the Hulk, he also appreciated the exploration of other aspects of the character's mythology, such as “Professor Hulk”, which brought a more fun and light tone.

In the context of the film he directed, Leterrier highlighted his interest in exploring the Hulk's awareness of his actions after his transformations. He wanted to approach this evolution in a more in-depth and gradual way, contrasting with Marvel's sometimes hasty approach of wanting to cover several aspects simultaneously.

Leterrier also mentioned the She-Hulk series, expressing her appreciation for the character played by Tatiana Maslany, but acknowledging that some directions the series took diverged from her original vision for the Hulk.

Although the Hulk played a central role in the MCU, he never received a second solo outing due to copyright issues between Marvel Studios and Universal. Instead, the character appeared in supporting roles in films such as “The Avengers,” “Thor: Ragnarok” and “She-Hulk.”

The original film, released the same year as the first “Iron Man,” grossed $264 million at the global box office. It can currently be rented or purchased through Google Play.
