Calleri vents after leaving the field feeling pain once again
– international sports, latest sports news, local games and international games

On Wednesday night (08), after São Paulo's victory against Cobresal, in Chile, Calleri expressed his frustration at, once again, leaving the field in pain. Substituted in the 86th minute feeling his right calf, he suspected a new injury and lamented his difficulty in maintaining a sequence of games: “I'm very frustrated. I can't maintain a long streak. I felt my calf. I need to evaluate what I'm doing wrong to hurt myself less.”

Even after leaving the field, the Argentine played an important role in the game, scoring São Paulo's third goal. By finding the net, Calleri reached the mark of 12 goals for São Paulo in the Libertadores, close to the record set by Ceni and Luis Fabiano, who have 14 goals in the history of the competition for Tricolor.

This Wednesday's probable injury occurred when the number 9 received a ball in midfield and, as he advanced, he complained of pain in his right calf. He then requested his replacement, giving way to midfielder Rodriguinho.

Injuries are already common in recent times

Last year, Calleri was the player on the São Paulo squad most affected by inconsistency on the field. The Argentine faced problems with his back, thigh and ankle, totaling six periods that left him without playing 19 games.

Despite the absence, imaging tests confirmed the severity of the injury suffered at the time, and the player admitted that he had been playing at his limit for a long time. In 2024, Calleri stopped participating in 5 competitions for the São Paulo team. The reason for the absence this time was a Baker's cyst, caused by problems with the knee joint.

Calleri talks about excessive travel

During the interview given after the game in Chile, Calleri emphasized the frequency of travel undertaken by Brazilian players nowadays. He addressed the challenge of this exhausting routine of flights to the cities where the matches take place, without attributing exclusively to it the injuries he has faced since 2023: “In Brazil, the amount of travel we have is crazy. We hardly sleep, we sleep on the flight, we train as best we can. We’ve been traveling for 15 days, but that’s no excuse.”

Despite the victory, Calleri showed clear disappointment when heading to the dressing room, once again forced to leave the field due to a familiar reason: pain. His presence in the team's next match, scheduled for Monday (13) against Fluminense, also remains shrouded in uncertainty for the player.
