Abia: APC Chieftain drags Otti to EFCC, ICPC on N54BN School Renewal Funds

A Congress All Progressives, APC, Chieftain, in the state of Abia, Eze Chikamnayo, dragged Governor Alex Otti to the EFCC Economic and Financial Crime Commission, and the independent corrupted practices and other related offenses on the controversial N54 billion billion N54 for school reform.
Chikamnayo announced this while talking to journalists on Tuesday in Abuja.
In addition to EFCC and ICPC, Chikamnayo also asked the National Assembly, the Federal Ministry of Finance, Transparency International and the World Bank to investigate the N54 billion N54 budgeted for school reform.
He said the failure or refusal to publish the list, location, hired and photos of the alleged 51 public school projects for which more than n54 billion were spent between the first and fourth quarters of 2024 by the government of Alex Otti, is indicative of systemic corruption.
According to him, it is alarming that, despite such huge allocations and disbursements, and with almost two years, there is no new intelligent school project anywhere in the state of Abia, as widely reported by the government.
“In addition, our visits to find facts to many public schools in the state of Abia indicate that more than 95 % of them remain in a state of severe negligence-with ruins, united compounds and absence of learning and teaching equipment.
“These worrying realities contrast strongly with these expenses registered in the State Government Budget Performance Report, which is different from other financial entries registered with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) and various federal intervention programs.”
By asking all agencies and anti-agency groups, civil society organizations and thought leaders to demand responsibility for Alex Otti’s administration, the group said: “We have already written official letters to the bodies above and other international organizations specializing in basic education, requiring an urgent intervention to rescue the state of any attempt by Alex Finati to use education as a lead.
“In the interest of the state of Abia, children and generations of Abia, not yet born, we drag the state government, under the administration led by Alex Otti, for all relevant anti -corruption agencies, local and internationally.
“We also wrote to the National Assembly, UNESCO, the World Bank, the Federal Ministry of Finance, the Federal Ministry of Education and, in fact, vigilantes such as Transparency International, Amnesty International and others for urgent intervention and sanctions, when necessary.
“It is our hope that you join us in our tireless work in promoting transparency and fighting corruption, lending your voice, platform and influence to ensure that justice is fulfilled and responsibility is applied to the governance of the state of Abia.”

Health unions begin indefinite strike on Saturday
Health unions begin indefinite strike on Saturday
– African Latest Nigerian news, political trends and trending Gossips in Nigeria. Stay ahead with the latest in Afri news.
Healthcare unions under the aegis of the Joint Health Sector Unions, JOHESU, and the Assembly of Healthcare Professionals Associations, AHPA, have declared an indefinite nationwide strike commencing on Saturday, November 15, 2025.
Unions attributed the industrial action to the Federal Government’s persistent failure to implement the adjusted Consolidated Health Salary Structure, CONHESS, and to address long-standing welfare and systemic issues affecting health workers.
JOHESU National President, Comrade Kabiru Minjibir, announced this in a statement on Friday.
This development comes at a time when the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors, NARD, is already on indefinite strike over unpaid arrears of hazard pay, poor working conditions and inability to implement agreed social reforms.
DAILY POST reports that JOHESU represents several major unions including the Nigeria Medical and Health Workers Union, the Nigerian Union of Allied Health Professionals, the Association of Senior Staff of Universities, Teaching Hospitals, Research Institutes and Associated Institutions, and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions.
JOHESU emphasized that the delay in implementing the adjusted CONHESS remained the main trigger, noting that several other unresolved issues also influenced the decision to terminate services.
“The crux of the matter in the present circumstances is the long delay in the implementation of the report of the High Level Body, HLB, of the Committee on the adjusted Consolidated Health Salary Structure since its presentation to the Presidential Committee on Salaries and Wages in 2022,” the statement read.
