Bivalent vaccine against Covid will start to be applied to people over 50

All residents of the capital of São Paulo over 50 years of age as of this Wednesday (26) will be able to take Pfizer’s bivalent vaccine. This Monday (24) the Ministry of Health ended up allowing the immunizer to be distributed to the entire population aged 18 or over, but it will depend on availability in the municipalities.

According to the Municipal Secretary of Health (SMS) said that the capital ended up receiving 161,000 doses of the immunizer this Tuesday, but it ended up not being enough to serve the entire population of age.

This Tuesday (25) 600 thousand doses were distributed that were already in stock to all municipalities in a way that was proportional.

The municipal secretary of Health, Luiz Carlos Zamarco, informed that “Our network is structured to vaccinate the entire population with the bivalent Pfizer dose, we have 470 UBSs prepared to carry out the immunization. As there are more than 9 million people over 18 years old in the capital, we will expand vaccination as we receive new lots”.

According to the ministry’s balance sheet, until last week more than 10 million people had already received reinforcement through the bivalent vaccine, with 8.1 million doses in elderly people aged 60 years or more.

For people aged 50 or over, the vaccine is applied in the capital of São Paulo in all priority groups that have already completed the primary immunization scheme (one or two doses), which lasts at least four months.

The priority groups that are able to receive Pfizer’s bivalent vaccine are people over 12 years of age with immunosuppression or comorbidities, indigenous people, pregnant and puerperal women, residents in long-stay institutions and employees of these equipment in the city of São Paulo, professionals health professionals, people with permanent physical disabilities, the population deprived of liberty and employees of the prison system, and the homeless population.
