Health unions begin indefinite strike on Saturday
Health unions begin indefinite strike on Saturday
– African Latest Nigerian news, political trends and trending Gossips in Nigeria. Stay ahead with the latest in Afri news.
Healthcare unions under the aegis of the Joint Health Sector Unions, JOHESU, and the Assembly of Healthcare Professionals Associations, AHPA, have declared an indefinite nationwide strike commencing on Saturday, November 15, 2025.
Unions attributed the industrial action to the Federal Government’s persistent failure to implement the adjusted Consolidated Health Salary Structure, CONHESS, and to address long-standing welfare and systemic issues affecting health workers.
JOHESU National President, Comrade Kabiru Minjibir, announced this in a statement on Friday.
This development comes at a time when the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors, NARD, is already on indefinite strike over unpaid arrears of hazard pay, poor working conditions and inability to implement agreed social reforms.
DAILY POST reports that JOHESU represents several major unions including the Nigeria Medical and Health Workers Union, the Nigerian Union of Allied Health Professionals, the Association of Senior Staff of Universities, Teaching Hospitals, Research Institutes and Associated Institutions, and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions.
JOHESU emphasized that the delay in implementing the adjusted CONHESS remained the main trigger, noting that several other unresolved issues also influenced the decision to terminate services.
“The crux of the matter in the present circumstances is the long delay in the implementation of the report of the High Level Body, HLB, of the Committee on the adjusted Consolidated Health Salary Structure since its presentation to the Presidential Committee on Salaries and Wages in 2022,” the statement read.
