The heavy rains that hit Rio Grande do Sul left thousands of people homeless and caused many problems in the lives of Rio Grande do Sul. As a result, more than R$35 million from Personal Income Tax (IRPF) were donated to Rio Grande do Sul. South, the value places the southern state as the largest recipient of this type of donation, followed by São Paulo, with R$33 million, and Paraná, with R$18 million.

Since the end of April, Rio Grande do Sul has faced the greatest climate tragedy in its history, which has encouraged many taxpayers to direct their donations to the region. The assistant judge of the Presidency of the CNJ and manager of the National Pact for Early Childhood, Edinaldo César Santos Junior, highlighted the importance of these contributions.

What does the law say

Brazilian legislation allows taxpayers to allocate up to 6% of the tax due to state and municipal funds linked to the Child and Adolescent Statute and the Elderly Statute. This option is exclusive to those who complete the full IRPF declaration.

Collection

To date, more than 30 million declarations have been registered, but the Federal Revenue expects to receive around 43 million by the deadline for delivery, which ends on May 31st. Contributors who have already submitted their declarations can make an amended version to include donations by the end of the deadline.

The allocation of part of the tax to social funds represents an important tool to support regions in need, enabling the implementation of essential public policies.
