Mass layoffs hit Disney's Pixar Studios

On Tuesday (21), Pixar Animation Studios began the process of laying off around 14% of its employees, due to the reduction in production of original series for streaming. As a result, approximately 175 people will be impacted by staff cuts at the Walt Disney unit.
Mass productions and layoffs
Pixar had hired additional employees to create original series as the company's creative units came under pressure from the former CEO Disney, Bob Chapekwith the aim of produce exclusive content for Disney+.
The company will once again focus solely on films, which will be shown in cinemas before arriving The streaming platform. However, nThis year, only the original series “Win or Lose,” which tells the story of a softball team, will be released on Disney+.
Reuters reported mass layoffs last year and reported that further cuts were possible this year. Pixar Animation is expected to lay off around 175 employees, affecting approximately 14% of its workforce.
Disney plans to emerge from the crisis
Bob Iger, the successor to Chapek, has been reducing spending on original streaming content to make Disney+ more profitable. The company's entertainment division achieved operating profit in the most recent quarter, with Disney+ and Hulu.
In an interview with CNBC, Iger announced that, in June, Disney will begin a plan to reduce password sharing, following examples from other platforms such as Netflix and HBO Max. The goal is to increase the revenue of the streaming service, which reached R$5.5 billion in the first fiscal quarter, representing an increase of 15%.
