Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes took down the X platform – formerly Twitter – last Friday (30). The decision was to immediately suspend the social network, with 24 hours for Anatel to cut off access. This Monday (2), there was a vote among the five ministers of the first group of the STF – Carmen Lúcia, Cristiano Zanin, Flávio Dino, Luiz Fux and Moraes himself -, with all voting in favor of suspending the platform.
The situation is due to conflicts between Moraes and Elon Musk, owner of X. “bullshit” between them began in April of this year. The billionaire argues that measures in the form of censorship were demanded, while the minister guarantees that he is guided by Brazilian law.
Business Impact
Musk's platform is a work tool for many people. The ease of access with a single “tweet” makes the social network play an important role in the dissemination of news, for example. Caio Miachon Tenorio, a digital law specialist, warns that the suspension of X could have repercussions on the economy (via CNN):
“…Blocking a platform like X could create a domino effect, affecting other areas of the economy that depend on digital interactions, damaging companies’ confidence in the Brazilian regulatory environment”.
Several brands depend on X for advertising. In addition, the economic issue involves a bigger problem according to the expert, who points to a possible “boycott” of foreign investors due to legal uncertainty (via CNN):
“Brazil can be seen as a hostile market for new businesses, especially in the technology sector, where freedom of operation and regulatory stability are essential.”
It is worth noting that a better idea of the situation will only be possible over time, depending on the length of the restriction and your perception.

Starlink is also a target
Musk's company, Starlink, is managed by SpaceX and provides low-cost internet through satellites. Due to the imbroglio with the social network, Moraes blocked Starlink's accounts due to the lack of payment of fines imposed on X. The measure could also affect the country's image among investors.
“If Brazil is seen as a country where the government or the Judiciary can directly interfere in the functioning of digital platforms through provisional protection, the deterrent effect could be great, leading to capital flight and a reduction in new investments”explained Caio Tenorio (via CNN).
With the request to unblock assets denied on Friday (30), the company appealed against the decision on Monday (2).

Cyber Pandemonium: Major Security Breach Exposes Millions of Sensitive Data
The world woke up to a digital nightmare yesterday morning, as news broke out that a major cyber security breach had exposed millions of sensitive data belonging to some of the world’s most prominent companies and institutions. The attack, which is believed to have originated from a sophisticated group of hackers, has left experts scrambling to contain the damage.
According to sources close to the investigation, the breach occurred when an unknown entity gained unauthorized access to a cloud-based storage system used by several high-profile corporations. The hackers allegedly exploited a previously undiscovered vulnerability in the system’s security protocol, allowing them to infiltrate and steal sensitive information.
While officials have yet to confirm the exact nature of the stolen data, reports suggest that it includes confidential financial records, personal identifiable information (PII), and intellectual property belonging to some of the world’s most influential businesses. The breach is believed to have occurred over several weeks, with the hackers gradually siphoning off sensitive information before being detected.
“We take this incident extremely seriously,” said a spokesperson for one of the affected companies, who wished to remain anonymous. “The security and integrity of our customers’ data are paramount, and we’re working around the clock to mitigate the damage.”
As news of the breach spread like wildfire across social media platforms, panic began to set in among those whose sensitive information may have been compromised. Many took to Twitter to express their outrage and concern, with #CyberSecurityBreach trending worldwide.
“I’m still trying to wrap my head around this,” said Sarah Taylor, a marketing executive who confirmed that her company was one of the victims. “We’ve always been told that our data is safe, but it seems like no one is immune from these attacks.”
Cybersecurity experts agree that the breach highlights the critical need for more robust security protocols and heightened awareness among businesses and individuals.
“This incident should serve as a wake-up call to companies and governments alike,” said Dr. Maria Rodriguez, a leading expert in cybersecurity. “The consequences of such breaches can be catastrophic, not only financially but also in terms of reputational damage.”
As authorities work tirelessly to contain the fallout, many are left wondering how this could have happened.
“We’ve been warned about these types of attacks for years,” said David Lee, a security consultant who has worked with numerous Fortune 500 companies. “It’s not that we’re not prepared; it’s just that the hackers are always one step ahead.”
The breach is believed to be linked to a notorious hacking group known for their sophisticated tactics and ability to evade detection. The group, which operates under several pseudonyms, has been accused of carrying out numerous high-profile cyber attacks in recent years.
As investigators continue to analyze the breach, many are left questioning the effectiveness of current security measures.
“We need to fundamentally rethink our approach to cybersecurity,” said Jane Smith, a cybersecurity expert who has testified before Congress on multiple occasions. “The status quo is no longer acceptable; we need more robust, proactive strategies that prioritize prevention over reaction.”
In light of this major cyber security breach, companies and governments are scrambling to respond. As news of the attack continues to spread, one thing is clear: the world will never be the same again.

ChromeOS Flex can save your old notebook! Download the operating system and test it to avoid the increase in e-waste
Follow afrilatest Digital on Google Discover
Do you have an old notebook lying around at home that could perhaps be brought back to life with a good upgrade? Well, ChromeOS Flex is a free version of Google’s operating system developed
especially for revitalizing old computers.
It is based on ChromeOS (present on Chromebooks) but can be installed on traditional notebooks and desktops with Intel or AMD processors. Because it is lightweight and focused on online use, ChromeOS Flex offers more fluid performance on machines with limited hardware, in addition to allowing them to remain useful in everyday tasks, such as browsing the internet, accessing emails, watching videos, studying and working with documents in the cloud.
Read more:
What is ChromeOS Flex and what is it for?

One of the main advantages is the possibility of reducing electronic waste disposal, allowing old equipment to gain a new useful life, without requiring expensive parts or heavy systems like recent versions of Windows. The computer just needs to have:
- Intel or AMD x64 processor;
- Minimum 4 GB of RAM;
- At least 16 GB of storage;
- Internet access;
- An 8 GB pendrive (to install).
How to install ChromeOS Flex?
You will need: a flash drive of 8 GB or more (all content will be erased); a computer to prepare the pendrive and, of course, your old notebook to install the system.
Time required: 10 minutes
- Connect the installation pendrive
Connect the mobile device (pendrive) to the main computer to prepare it.
- Install Chromebook Recovery Utility in Your Browser
It’s a free Google Chrome extension that also works on other browsers.
- After installing the extension, click on the top right corner
- Create media on the pendrive
The system will request a pendrive or SD card to create the installation drive. Just click “Start” as soon as you plug the media into your computer.
- Select “Google Chrome OS Flex” on the next screen
On the next screen, in the selection box select “Google Chrome OS Flex” and click “Continue” and select the Pendrive. Remember, all data will be erased. Click “Create Now”.
- With the media ready, go to the old notebook to prepare the “boot”
To select the pendrive as boot, you need to access the BIOS of your laptop, a procedure that may vary depending on the manufacturer (just search for the notebook model to see which key is correct). Normally, just turn on the equipment and press the F2, F12, or DEL key, depending on the brand. Leave the pendrive as the first boot option:
- Wait for the installation
If everything goes well, the following screen will appear:
- Choose the language on the next screen and click “Install”
On the next screens, you will select the desired language and then two options: Install ChromeOS Flex or Test First. In the Test First option, it means running the system without installing it, just to do a test. Click Install to complete the final installation.
Once done, just wait for the reboot, remove the Pendrive and then you can change your final installation language!
Then, you will define the type of use, updates and you can log in to your Google account, and that’s it!
Your notebook may also gain “survival” with this operating system update.

There is no plan B: Earth is our only ship in the Universe
There is no plan B: Earth is our only ship in the Universe

35 years ago, the Voyager 1 probe looked back more than four billion kilometers away and recorded one of the most iconic images in the history of space exploration. Carl Sagan described that image as “a speck of dust suspended in a ray of sunlight.” It was Earth—home to everyone who had ever lived, loved, and dreamed.
(“Pale Blue Dot”, iconic image taken by Voyager 1 six billion kilometers away, which shows the Earth as a small blue dot above and in the center – Credits: Voyager 1 / NASA )
Seen from space, the Earth appears small, fragile, isolated. And yet, it’s all we have. Earth has no backup. And we know of no place in the Universe where we could restore humanity, in the event of a catastrophic failure with our home planet.
(View of Earth recorded by the Apollo 17 crew traveling towards the Moon NASA/Apollo17)
At this moment when the world’s leaders are preparing to debate the future of the planet at COP 30, in Belém, perhaps it is the ideal time to remember this: our world is rare, and the chance of finding another like it is practically nil.
What makes Earth so special?
It’s just the right distance from the Sun — not too hot, not too cold. It has a protective atmosphere, rich in oxygen, and a magnetic field that defends us from solar radiation. It has abundant liquid water and a Moon that stabilizes its tilt, keeping the seasons and climate predictable.
Everything about it seems to work in harmony, like a cosmic orchestra tuned over billions of years. But it only takes a single instrument to go out of time, a note out of tune, for the concert of life to lose its rhythm.
Read more:
But, in recent decades, something has been disturbing this balance. We are polluting the atmosphere, the planet is warming, glaciers are melting, ocean levels are rising — and extreme weather events are becoming increasingly common. And if something goes wrong with Earth, where can we go?
Let’s look around…
Mars? Cold, dry, has no magnetic field to protect against radiation and a rarefied and toxic atmosphere. Venus? A furnace at 480 °C, atmospheric pressure 90 times greater than that on Earth and clouds of sulfuric acid. Living there would be like spending a vacation in a pressure cooker on high heat.
(Human colonization of Mars would depend on closed habitats with a simulated atmosphere, life support systems and resource production, something unfeasible at the moment – Credits: SpaceX)
The moons of Jupiter and Saturn, such as Europa and Titan, are intriguing — they hold underground oceans and organic compounds. They may even harbor some kind of life, but they are extremely hostile to life like ours. Icy worlds, hundreds of millions of kilometers away, under thick layers of ice and exposed to lethal radiation.
Leaving Earth to live in another world today would be like exchanging a cruise in the Caribbean for a tent in Antarctica — or a steaming sauna on the edge of a volcano. We can study these places, perhaps visit, even dream of terraforming them, but none of them are ready to receive us. The only habitable planet we know… is the one we inhabit.
What if we look even further?
Since the 1990s, we have identified thousands of exoplanets — worlds orbiting other stars. Some are in “habitable” zones, where the temperature could allow liquid water. The problem is the enormous distances that separate us from these planets. Distances that are impossible to overcome with our current technology.
(Infographic with 500 exoplanets discovered by 2015 – today there are more than 5000, but none of them are accessible at the moment – Credits: Martin Vargic)
To give you an idea, Voyager 1, which is our fastest spacecraft, needed 36 years just to leave the Solar System, and would need around 80 thousand years to reach Proxima Centauri, the closest star to the Sun.
Even if there is a second Eden lost among the stars, it is far beyond our reach. Our home is this one — and the rest is science fiction. At least for now.
And it’s not because the Earth was made to house humanity. We humans were tailor-made for this Earth we have today.
Our planet was once a world of incandescent lava. Then an ice ball. It has already experienced five mass extinctions, cosmic impacts and eruptions that completely altered the climate. With each change, many species became extinct and the most adapted ones prevailed.
It was the stable and mild climate of the last ten thousand years that allowed a species descended from primates to develop, dominating agriculture, establishing itself in cities and giving rise to our civilization. Humanity flourished in Earth’s geological springtime, a rare interval of planetary balance. A balance that is now threatened, apparently, by the hands of humanity itself.
Earth is rare. And live. It is not just a solitary clod of rock suspended in the darkness — it is a pulsating system, where oceans breathe, forests filter, clouds recycle, and life adapts as a single interconnected network. We are part of it. And what affects one part, affects the whole. Therefore, when we harm our planet, we are harming ourselves. Poisoning the only well from which we drink the water of life.
(Earth, a living planet – AI-generated image (GPT Chat))
Earth is the only place in the Universe we can call home. A welcoming oasis in the midst of the vast desert of the Cosmos. Our planet has no backup and before wanting to terraform Mars or any other world, our best option will continue to be to preserve, here on Earth, the ideal conditions for human life.
