Number of jobs in our country reaches record level of 8.9 million, the number of permanent and flexible jobs in the Netherlands has reached a record. At the end of February, our country had 8.9 million employee jobs, an increase of 5 percent compared to the beginning of 2019, according to figures from the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS).
The increase in the number of jobs is largest in the care sector and in the government sector. In these two sectors there are 2.6 million jobs, an increase of 9.5 percent.
“The corona crisis has of course played a major role in this, because of the arrival of test locations and the GGD that was looking for extra staff.
But we are seeing an increase across the board, such as in the temporary jobs. Moreover, very few companies have gone bankrupt,” says CBS chief economist Peter Hein van Mulligen.
The number of people in work has now risen to 9.1 million, partly due to the increase in the labour force. And that means that the shortage on the labour market is currently very large.
“The labor participation rate has never been higher, some people have two jobs. We therefore see that many companies suffer from the shortage of personnel.
And that will remain the case for a while, as the ageing population continues,” says Van Mulligen.
