Starlink goes against Alexandre de Moares' decision in new dispute

Starlink, which is part of the conglomerate run by billionaire Elon Musk, posted on X this Thursday (29) that the decisions of Supreme Court Minister Alexandre de Moraes are unconstitutional. The company will resort to legal channels, after blocking the company's accounts in Brazil.

What the publication says

The post reiterates that the minister's order was based on the replacement of Starlink, which will be directly responsible for the fines charged to X. This, for the company, is not true. The publication also says that Starlink was not informed about the legal possibilities that the Brazilian Constitution guarantees for its defense, and that the decision was deliberated in secret. Therefore, it will address the issue legally.

According to information from journalist Valdo Cruz, on his blog, Alexandre Moraes' objective was based on the assessment that there is an economic group led by Elon Musk, which includes satellite internet services (Starlink) — more active in the North of Brazil —, and companies under the acronym X.

Since the judge could no longer question the social network about ending its activities in the country, the minister decided to freeze the financial assets of the Starlink holding company. This would be a guarantee that fines imposed by the Brazilian courts against X would be paid.

Old fight

The public feud began months ago, after X was accused of spreading fake news and hate speech, and was punished for failing to comply with the Supreme Court's orders. Since then, Musk's group has closed all of its branches in the country, due to what it called censorship by the minister, although the service remained available to its users. If the minister decided to permanently suspend the company and freeze its assets, this would directly affect Musk, who called the judge “dictator” on a certain occasion.
