PC System Requirements Revealed
– All in one GAME updates, New game release, 2024 games, upcoming games, trending games, latest discovery and game reviews.

Get ready, warriors of Midgard! God of War Ragnarok is about to invade your PC on September 19, and if you've been looking forward to crushing enemies with the Leviathan axe in glorious 4K at 60 FPS, you'd better check out the system requirements before assuming your computer can handle it without breaking a sweat.

Santa Monica Studio has finally revealed the details you need to know to return to the Nine Realms – and, of course, we're going to break it all down with plenty of sarcasm and jokes, because that's how we do it.

What You'll Need to Run God of War Ragnarök on PC

First of all, it's good to know that Kratos isn't exactly easy to please. If you plan on running God of War Ragnarok on your PC, you'll need hardware that can take a beating, because Realms is not for the faint of heart – or configuration, for that matter.

Minimum Configurations: For Those Who Want to Try Their Luck

Let's start with the basics. If your PC is still running 2010 games without complaint, it might be time for an upgrade. To run God of War Ragnarok At the very least – and when I say “minimum”, I’m talking about 1080p at 30 FPS (basically, enough to see Kratos blink) – you’ll need:

  • GPU: NVIDIA GTX 1060 or AMD RX 5500 XT. In other words, cards that were once the darlings of the market, but nowadays are more like that relative you only see at the end of the year parties.
  • CPU: Intel i5-4670k or AMD Ryzen 3 1200. Nothing too fancy, but also nothing that will make your PC cry out for help.
  • RAM: 8 GB – The minimum to not make Kratos cry.

Recommended Configuration: To Avoid Embarrassment

If you want to run the game in a more dignified way, with 1080p at 60 FPS, without having to count pixels, then the recommended configuration is the way to go:

  • GPU: NVIDIA RTX 2060 Super or AMD RX 5700. Now we're talking about something that will really make the graphics shine (literally, if you turn on ray tracing).
  • CPU: Intel i5-8600 or AMD Ryzen 5 3600. A little more power to ensure that Kratos' beard is rendered in all its glory.
  • RAM: 16 GB – Enough to ensure your PC won’t crash just when Kratos is in the middle of an epic punch sequence.

High Performance: For Those Who Want to Show They Have a Respectable PC

  • GPU: NVIDIA RTX 3070 or AMD RX 6800 for 1440p, and NVIDIA RTX 3080 Ti or AMD RX 6900 XT for 4K. These are the monsters that will ensure that every detail, from the runes on weapons to the scales on dragons, are rendered perfectly.
  • CPU: Intel i7-7700K or AMD Ryzen 7 2700X. To ensure that the game doesn't stutter when you most need everything to run smoothly.
  • RAM: 16 GB – because anything less than that would be asking for the game to crash right at the final boss.

Ultra: For the Rich and Brave

Finally, if you're one of those people who won't settle for anything less than absolute perfection, then the Ultra setting is what you're looking for. We're talking 4K at 60 FPS with everything maxed out. Basically, you want Kratos to jump out of the screen and rip your head off with incredible graphics:

  • GPU: NVIDIA RTX 4070 Ti or AMD RX 7900 XT. Cards that probably cost more than your rent, but hey, who needs a place to live when you can explore Midgard in 4K?
  • CPU: Intel i5-11600K or AMD Ryzen 7 3700X. Processors that ensure every swing of the Leviathan axe is smoother than butter.
  • RAM: 16 GB – gold standard for any AAA game these days.

Storage

Regardless of the configuration, all levels require 190 GB of SSD. That's right, you'll need an SSD because no one deserves to wait for the game to load while life goes by. After all, we're talking about God of Warnot a walk in the park.

Graphics Technology: The Move of the Century

In addition to all these requirements, Santa Monica Studio confirmed that God of War Ragnarok for PC will support major graphics rendering technologies including Nvidia DLSS 3.7, AMD FSR 3.1 and Intel XeSS 1.3. What does that mean? Higher resolutions and higher frame rates, even if you don't have the most cutting-edge setup on the market. If Kratos trusted technology like he trusted his Leviathan axe, this is what he would do.

Curiosity: The History of the God of War Franchise

For those who are just arriving in the universe of God of War (if that's even possible), here's a quick recap. The franchise began back in 2005, when Kratos, a Spartan with serious anger management issues, decided to go around breaking everything and everyone in his path to exact revenge on the gods of Olympus. The series has evolved from a fast-paced hack and slash to an epic action-adventure, with a deep narrative that explores Kratos' relationship with his son, Atreus.

The 2018 reboot brought Kratos to the Norse world, with stunning graphics, refined gameplay, and a story that won over critics and players alike. Now, with God of War Ragnarokthe saga continues, promising to end the Norse story of Kratos and Atreus with a flourish (or blood, depending on your point of view).

Are You Ready for Midgard?

Whether you're a veteran of Kratos' wars or a newbie eager to meet the God of War, God of War Ragnarok promises to be an epic experience on PC. But before you go out there swinging your axe, make sure your PC is up to the challenge. After all, facing off against the Norse gods is one thing – facing off against the Norse gods in 4K graphics and 60 FPS is a whole other experience. So get ready, because the Nine Realms are waiting!
