“I never thought it would happen to me”

Last Thursday (21), Demi Lovato, 29, spoke about her battles with drug addiction during an interview with Mix 104.1 radio in Boston. The actress talked about how reaching 30 years of age influenced her to want to live and find her identity.

The singer spoke about how the people around her always encouraged her to stay away from alcohol and added that she didn't want to be sober at the time. “I had people around me who wanted me to get sober. And I don’t think I wanted that,” she said. Demi explained that she looked for other alternatives, but nothing worked: “I tried just smoking weed, I tried all the bargain choices… and I realized that none of it works for me.”

The composer revealed that her only truly effective method of resisting drugs was through acceptance. “What has come into my life is acceptance. A beautiful thing and something I never thought would happen to me,” declared. The singer turns 30 in August and reflected on the stage of life she is in. She commented that there is something about entering your thirties that makes people more receptive to where they are in life.

The artist began her career at the age of 9 and has suffered from the hardships brought on by fame since she was a child. She said she no longer needs to try so hard to “be someone,” and that she is finally finding her identity during this new phase of her life. In a recent interview with Jimmy Fallon, Demi said she is proud of her latest album, called 'Holy Fvck'.

She explained that it was the first album she was clean and sober on while producing it. “I've definitely been through a ton, that's no secret to the world,” said. Demi said that she went through a lot last year, and when she got out of treatment again, she realized that she wanted to write the album herself and do something that really represents who she is.
