Atalanta are defeated by Liverpool, but qualify for the Europa League semi-finals

The Italian team, Atalanta, lost 1-0 at home to the English team, Liverpool, in the second game of the quarter-finals of the Europa League, this Thursday (18), in Italy.

However, even with the defeat, they managed to qualify thanks to the first game of the round, with a 3-1 result on the aggregate score.

Retrospect

Atalanta beat Liverpool, last Wednesday (10), at Anfield, England, with a score of 3-0. The victory, therefore, created a huge advantage for the game that would follow the occasion, at the home of the own Atalanta, in Italy.

Thanks to the conditions of victory, the Italian team played this Thursday's match (18) much more calmly. Being able to lose with a relatively large goal difference, without failing to qualify, as happened.

At their Italian rival's home, Liverpool arrived with the desire to not only win, but to qualify. The English team showed what they came for with the Egyptian striker, Mohamed Salah, scoring during the first half of the game, from a penalty.

However, in a well-controlled game in Bergamo, Atalanta, the home team, managed to hold off the 2005 world champion's momentum and kept the score as it was: 1-0 for their English rival, but 3-1 on aggregate for they. Classification assured for the semi-final of the Europa League achieved.

Too many matches

On the other side of Atalanta's group, in the semi-finals of the Europa League, will be the French, Olympique de Marseille, who beat and eliminated the Portuguese, Benfica, this same Thursday (18), on penalties.

The winner of Atalanta and Olympique Marseille will take on the winner of Bayer Leverkusen and Roma.

Bayer secured their position in the semi-finals by drawing, when they already had the advantage in the first match, with West Ham. Meanwhile, Roma, beat Milan, again, and qualified for the semi-finals.

The first games of the Europa League semi-finals take place on Thursday (02), and are expected to start at 4pm.
