LeBron James and the Lakers will talk about the player’s future

The Los Angeles Lakers will be talking to LeBron James in the coming days to better understand the star’s thoughts regarding retirement. Los Angeles Lakers General Manager Rob Pelinka, along with team coach Darvin Ham, will meet with LeBron to catch up on the next steps in the player’s career.

Despite this, Pelinka has already made it clear that, for him and the team, LeBron would continue to play with the Lakers longer, but that this is the player’s decision, and that the franchise will support whatever the player chooses.

“We will be in contact with him, with his staff to be providing nothing but support for him. Obviously our hope would be for his career to continue, but we want to give him time to have that tipping point and support him along with his decision.” – Said Pelinka.

LeBron James hinted on Tuesday, after Monday’s loss and elimination to the Denver Nuggets, that he would be considering leaving the basketball courts and ending his career for good.

“It’s not fun not being able to reach the final. Let’s see what happens in the future. I have a lot on my mind, to be honest. Just with me moving forward in the basketball game, I have a lot on my mind.”James said at a post-game news conference.

There are some things that can weigh in favor of the King’s continuity on the courts. The main one is the relationship with your son. LeBron has already made it clear numerous times that his biggest dream right now is to be able to act alongside him.

Bronny James, LeBron’s eldest son, recently announced his admission to USC (University of Southern California), and by current NBA rules, the player would only be available to enter the league from the 2024-2025 season, that is, two years from now, precisely the length of contract that LeBron has with the Lakers.

James has to receive from the Californian team a trifle of approximately 97 million dollars, if he decides to continue for two more years with the team, and in his second year of the contract, it is LeBron who has the decision whether he wants to continue in the team or not. Which would be unlikely unless the Lakers got the rights to Bronny James during the draft.

However, there is still a negative situation that can play in favor of the athlete’s retirement. LeBron for much of this season has found himself with injury problems that he has rarely suffered in his entire career, the main one being a hamstring problem in his right foot.

The player confirmed that he will undergo an MRI to find out the severity of the injury, if it has healed correctly, and only after the result will he think about a possible surgery.
