Taylor Swift surpasses Kanye West with her album “The Tortured Poets Department”

“The Tortured Poets Department”Taylor Swift's eleventh album, released in April this year, has remained in the ranking of the most played songs in the United States for 14 weeks according to the Billboard 200. In second place was Ye and Ty Dolla with their album “Vultures 2”released in August this year.

“The Tortured Poets Department” was produced by Taylor Swift's own studio and has already sold the equivalent of 142 thousand copies. In just 12 hours after its release, the new work has already achieved the mark of most accessed album on Spotify in 2024.

“Vultures 2” features appearances by Lil Wayne, Playboi Carty, Young Thug and Don Toliver. The project is a continuation of the album released in February of this year, “Vultures 1”. The project was released independently and sold the equivalent of 107 thousand copies.

The work would have become rapper Kanye West's 12th album to reach number one if it weren't for “The Tortured Poets department”.

Kanye West vs Taylor Swift

The feud between the artists goes back a long time. It all started in 2009 when West interrupted Taylor Swift's speech at the MTV Video Music Awards. The singer had won the award for “Best Female Video”West then takes the mic and claims that Beyoncé should have won.

In 2016, Kanye West mentions Taylor in his song “Famous”generating a huge public fight. Taylor ended up being canceled after the release of a phone call that supposedly shows her consent to the song.

In 2017, the singer responded to what happened with music “Look What You Made Me Do”.

West states: “She and Beyoncé are huge inspirations to all musicians. We always talk about how they both sell out tours and movies. Plus, I’m sure I’ve been a lot more helpful to Taylor Swift’s career than I’ve been detrimental. To all the Taylor Swift fans out there, I’m not your enemy. Um, I’m not your friend either, haha.”

Taylor is currently dedicated to her Eras Tour. She will perform on August 15th in Liverpool.
