DJ Diplo will open Madonna's show in Rio de Janeiro

Thomas Wesley Pentz, known as Diplo, will be the DJ who will open Madonna's show in Rio de Janeiro. The information was disclosed in a text where the American artist demonstrates his love for Brazil. “Returning to perform with Madonna next month will perhaps be the biggest event of my entire life. So please post your requests.” said the DJ through social media.

Diplo and his relationship with Brazil

In March 2024, Diplo performed in Brazil at the Lollapalooza event. The DJ shared on Instagram the good memories he had while visiting Brazil. Among them, the artist mentioned the party held at Pão de Açúcar in first place, he also mentioned climbing in the Vidigal neighborhood and a party in Rocinha and his meeting and work with Brazilian singer Mr. Catra.

Diplo has been to Brazil more than 15 times, and besides Catra, he has also met DJ Marlboro, Sanny Pitbull and Hermano Viana. Through his meeting with Viana, Diplo got to know tecnobrega, a rhythm that is very popular in Pará. In his many visits to Brazil, he always places great emphasis on Brazilian music and our country. “It's a fascinating country, the only place outside the United States that has such a variety of rhythms. My job is to translate the styles into my performance: hip-hop, techno, funk, cumbia.“

Origin and career

Born in Mississippi and raised in the state of Florida in the United States, Diplo began his career around 20 years ago at Hollertronix, a nightclub in Philadelphia. The DJ is also a Grammy Awards winner. His record labels, Mad Decent and Highger Ground, work with a diversity of genres and artists and are active in film and TV, book projects and a publishing house.

Madonna's The Celebration Tour on Copacabana Beach will take place on May 4th and Diplo will open the show at 8pm. The Queen of Pop will start her show at 9:45pm.
