World of Warships grows and receives Brazilian vessel
– All in one GAME updates, New game release, 2024 games, upcoming games, trending games, latest discovery and game reviews.

Last week, gamescom latam took place and Wargaming was present with a respectable stand at the fair.

The biggest highlight was its naval combat game: World of Warships (2015), which has been creating a loyal community in Latin America.

Free to play and available on consoles, PCs and cell phones, it also won over Brazilians and the result of this support was an expansion with vessels and commanders from Latin countries, including Brazil.

Organic Growth

We had the opportunity to talk to Kristhian Rupp-MancillaWorld of Warship community manager, and he explained how the community grew here. Much more popular in the United States, the game receives more marketing and content for that region, but little by little and organically, it gained a South American audience.

With the possibility of being accessed on multiple platforms, the game's community ended up becoming spaced out, even though it is larger on PC, which inevitably makes it less united. Interaction, in addition to the Discord channel, is up to each clan itself and when meetings take place at larger events such as gamescom latam itself. Last Saturday (29), there was a meeting of players at the Wargaming booth and the game accumulated queues during the four days of the event.

“The reception from the public here has been really cool, with queues to play and lots of interaction. Our community is bigger on PC, but we have an audience divided between all platforms. Console players can play with those who prefer mobile phones, via crossplay, but the biggest interaction is within each clan. Here at the event, many of them are meeting each other for the first time, since until now they only interacted via Discord”.

Content for Brazilians

The next step for Wargaming in the region is to create more localized content, and the first batch is coming soon. Three ships are coming to the game in July, with no set date yet, and this time they are all from South American countries. We will have one from Chile, one from Argentina, and the Brazilian one, named Ipiranga.

In addition to the ship, we will also have a commander based on a historical figure, Admiral Joaquim Marques Lisboa, also known as Marquês de Tamandaré. Considered the patron saint of the Brazilian Navy, he fought during the 19th century and became part of history. The Admiral is expected to land in World of Warships at some point in September.

According to Rupp-Mancilla, this is an important step, since the Brazilian vessel that was previously in the game was part of a temporary event and since then could not be acquired, the Atlântico.

“Previously, this line of ships only existed in premium content and limited events. From the moment we have this line of content from levels 1 to 10, the need arises to also have a Pan-American fleet, since the Germans have one, the Americans have another, and now it is our region's turn.”

A long way to go

World of Warships' year is far from over, and there's still a lot of content to come. The second half of the year is already off to a hot start with the July 4th event, which is all about American independence. New gameplay mechanics will be introduced once again in the Halloween event, and of course, the game will receive a mega end-of-year event for Christmas.

If it depends on the community I saw in gamescom latamwe will certainly have content for our region soon and World of Warships has calm waters to sail for a good few years here.
