Brazilian athletes have the chance to win 15 medals out of the 22 expected

At the Paris Olympics, we will see equal numbers of men and women in races, arenas and fields, where a total of 10,500 places are filled by 5,250 men and 5,250 women. In fact, the Brazilian contingent will have more women than men for the first time: among the 277 athletes who will compete in 39 sports categories, there are 153 women, 55% of the total. It has been a long journey of rights won, until arriving in Paris.

What a winner says

“For me it is an honor to be part of this percentage of women who will be at the Games.”says gymnast Rebeca Andrade, who has won gold and silver medals at the Olympics, two of the 37 won by Brazilian women.

And it all began in 1932, when Maria Lenk became the first South American swimmer to compete in the Los Angeles Olympics. But it was only in Atlanta, in 1996, that the first awards were presented: the gold medal in beach volleyball won by Jackie and Sandra. This year, the number will increase significantly. The forecast is that Brazilian athletes will win 15 of the 22 medals that the country expects.

And the main reason for this is the flagship sports, the sports in which Brazil should win the most medals, such as judo, and they should come with women.

Brazilian teams will surpass the 50% mark at this year's Olympic Games. During the matches, there will be Brazilian stars who will light up the stadiums, ready to win medals and touch hearts. Just like striker Gabi, silver medalist for the 2021 volleyball team, who reminds us that the battle continues. The number of podium finishes by Brazil at the 2022 and 2023 World Championships, in the most varied categories, shows that Brazilian women should win more medals than men in Paris.

Main chances

In boxing, the main name is Beatriz Ferreira. In skateboarding, Rayssa Leal. In artistic gymnastics, Rebeca Andrade is a name to win at least four medals: on the floor, again on the vault, in the individual all-around, on the balance beam and on her favorite apparatus, the uneven bars.

In the up to 57 kg category, Jucielen Romeu has a chance of winning medals in boxing. Rayssa has matured in skateboarding over the last three years and is capable of even more incredible maneuvers than the ones she showed in 2021.

In Judo: Rafaela Silva returned to fighting at the end of 2021 and has been lining up podiums on the World Circuit. Women's volleyball has a new opportunity with a history of great titles, such as the two-time Olympic championship in Beijing 2008 and London 2012.

In sailing, Martine Grael and Kahena Kunze have chances. Rhythmic gymnastics has clearly evolved in terms of technique in the sport; in fencing, taekwondo, race walking and athletics, with Erica Sena and Viviane Lyra.
