Rhythmic gymnastics athlete Bárbara Domingos makes history by qualifying for the finals

Bárbara Domingos, gold medalist at the 2023 Pan American Games in rhythmic gymnastics, achieved a historic feat for the Olympic sport in Brazil: she qualified for a final in the sport in Paris 2024. The individual competition took place this Thursday (08), and had two stages, in which Bárbara won eighth place and thus, the classification.

Qualifying

The Brazilian gymnast already had the expectation of good results on her shoulders. Winner of the Gold at the Pan American Games in Santiago in 2023, in the individual all-around, Bárbara Domingos arrived at the Paris Olympic Games with Brazil's eyes on her.

And so it was done. Bárbara, who performed in two stages. First with hoop and ball performances, and in the second stage, with mace and ribbon performances. At the end of the first stage, Bárbara was already in sixth place, having qualified for the final. When she finished her performances, in the second stage, the Brazilian had an average of 129.750, and was in eighth place overall.

Bárbara was the 22nd athlete, out of a total of 24, to perform in both stages and knew that to meet the expectations imposed on her performance, she would need to be among the top 10 of the day, since they would be the ones who would qualify for the rhythmic gymnastics final. Sofia Raffaeli, an Italian athlete, is the favorite for the gold. The gymnast was ahead in both stages of the qualifying round and achieved a very impressive total score: 139.100. Now, one of the ten finalists, Bárbara Domingos, will perform again this Friday (09), at 9:30 am (Brasília time), and will try to get an Olympic podium for Brazil.

Brazilian rhythmic gymnastics team

In addition to Bárbara, who competes in the individual all-around event, in which she is the only one competing for a medal, the Brazilian team, which competes in the team event, will also compete for gold.

Deborah Medrado, Maria Eduarda Arakaki, Nicole Pírcio, Sofia Madeira and Victória Borges also participated in the 2023 Pan American Games, in Santiago, and also won gold in the sport, in addition to winning gold at the 2024 World Cup. The rhythmic gymnastics girls as a team will perform on Friday (09), at 5 am (Brasília time).
