Effects of cheating on a relationship

Singer Iza informed her fans that her relationship with Yuri Lima has come to an end after he cheated on her. According to CNN, which asked experts on the subject for information, cheating can lead to feelings of frustration, anxiety and stress. In an interview with CNN, psychologist and specialist in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Anne Crunfli, spoke about the subject: “It is anything that goes against the other person’s nature, that is, their values, their morals. It is that social contract made at the moment you choose to develop a relationship. So, if you lie, it is infidelity. If you cheat, it is infidelity.” said the psychologist. Anne also made a point of adding that betrayal is anything that is not explained: “is not worthy of being considered fit to be part of a healthy and functional relationship”, added.

Mental health affected

When a person is betrayed, they suffer from the pain of infidelity, which generates negativity, where the person feels suspicious and begins to question everything that they previously had control over and were certain of. Psychologist Anne Crunfli described how a person feels after being betrayed: “In a relationship where there is betrayal, the betrayed person may begin to wonder if they really have the values they believed they had,” says the psychologist. However, a warning point is the emotional closure of the human being, when it comes to aspects of mental health, because according to the specialist psychologist: “The person becomes hyper-sensitive, hyper-vigilant and hyper-comparative. And, before even giving another relationship a chance, they compare possible previous behaviors,” explains.

CNN also contacted psychologist Matheus Karounis, who has a master's degree in Clinical Psychology, where he spoke about the feelings generated after betrayal, which are generally stress, frustration and anxiety. “In a life as a couple, in which the parties share individualities and intimacies, a persona is created that represents both, called 'conjugality'. Thus, when one side performs a behavior in this sphere, the other has, mentally speaking, the entire construction hurt or destroyed”, described Matthew.

Suffering during pregnancy

In the case of singer Iza, and of many other women who have been cheated on during their relationships, the situation is much more sensitive. When a woman is pregnant, she becomes emotionally fragile, because during this period, female hormones are not at their normal levels. Psychologist Matheus explained that infidelity causes anguish and generates emotional instability. “A possible consequence is postpartum depression — a condition of deep sadness that can even interfere with the development of the maternal bond,” commented the specialist.

Psychologist Anne also said that the feelings caused by betrayal are just a phase: “This is the big issue of self-confidence. At some stages, we are fragile and at others we are more secure. Therefore, rationality is important to understand what led to this, to analyze ourselves without guilt, doing things differently in the future”, he says.formed.

The professionals gave some guidance on how to deal with post-betrayal, where the betrayed person should not be ashamed of what happened, always seeking to be with people who provide a support network, in addition to asking for help from a professional if their mental health is very shaken.
