Leonardo DiCaprio congratulates indigenous deputies elected in Brazil

Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio is passionate about environmental conservation, especially the Amazon Rainforest. His foundation, which works for environmental causes, was founded in 1998 and has donated more than $80 million since 2010, in addition to helping 200 projects across the country during the same period.

On Wednesday (05), DiCaprio congratulated the two indigenous women elected federal deputies in the Brazilian elections, on his Twitter account. The first to be congratulated by the actor was Sonia Guajajara (Psol-SP). In the post, he says: “Congratulations to Sonia Guajajara for winning a seat in the Brazilian Congress, making history as the first indigenous woman elected to the Brazilian Congress. This representation is essential to ensure that the rights of indigenous peoples, the guardians of our forests, are recognized and guaranteed.he said.

The indigenous woman, happy with the message, responded to the actor. “Wow, my people! We are so international! It's wonderful to know that our voice and our struggle are echoing all over the world. As I always say, fighting for the Amazon and our biodiversity is taking care of the future of the entire planet. Thank you, Leo!'' celebrated Sonia.

In another tweet, DiCaprio congratulated Célia Xacriabá (Psol-MG). “Congratulations, Celia, one of two indigenous women to win seats in Brazil's Congress. The Amazon and the health of our planet are in great hands with these two incredible leaders.'' the post said.

Célia responded by recalling the importance of the Amazon rainforest for the world. “Caring for our biomes does not only impact Brazil, it impacts all of humanity. Our victory is for Mother Earth''declared the deputy.

Leonardo DiCaprio has been named by the UN (United Nations) as one of the 'UN Climate Messengers of Peace'and spoke at the Climate Leaders Summit. The actor has also taken to the streets in protests to raise awareness about global warming and its risks. When he won his first Oscar, he used his acceptance speech to warn the public about climate change.
