'Chronicles of Narnia' actress battles deadly 'flesh-eating' infection

Actress Georgie Henley, 27, famous for her role in the “Chronicles of Narnia” saga, revealed that she suffered after being diagnosed with necrotizing fasciitis, a “flesh-eating” infection that damages the skin.

Necrotizing fasciitis is caused by bacteria and can happen if a wound becomes infected. Immediate treatment is needed, according to the United Kingdom's National Health Service.

The bacteria release toxins that harm nearby tissues.

Initial symptoms are similar to those of the flu and can also cause vomiting and swelling in infected areas and lead to serious problems such as blood poisoning (sepsis) and organ failure.

The actress declared that she acquired the infection at the age of 18 and with it marks of scars that she hid for a long time. However, she decided to talk about the topic.

“It took me a long time to recover both physically and mentally, but I hoped that one day it would be the right time to talk about what happened. Today is a start.”wrote Henley.

She became famous during her childhood, having played the role of Lucy Pevensie in the films of the saga “The Chronicles of Narnia”. After being diagnosed with the health problem, she said she experienced “the shame of feeling different”.

Henley was 18 when she had the necrotizing agent. At the time, she had just started university.

The young woman still had the chance to have her left arm amputated, so she underwent an “exhausting invasive surgery” and then a reconstructive skin graft procedure, she explained in her post.

This left scar marks on his arm.

“In the last nine years, I have been open about my scars in my personal life, but I have hidden them in any professional context”he admitted.

To do this, she used bandages, cosmetics, and long-sleeved clothes to put her left hand in her pocket. The young woman did not want the marks on her skin to harm her professional opportunities.

“The industry I participate in often focuses on a very fixed idea of ​​what is considered aesthetic 'perfection' and I was worried that my scars would prevent me from getting work”he stated.

“But the truth is that there is no such thing as 'perfection', but I still live with the shame of feeling different, exacerbated by the high expectations that were created when I started my career as a child.”

The Instagram post on the subject received tens of thousands of likes and positive comments.

Henley proudly concluded in her post that she is confident she will speak more about her experiences in the future.
