After having the first season with 10 episodes released on August 5, “The Sandman” was quite successful. The series led Netflix in views, with 127.5 million hours between August 4 and 14, according to “DC Legacy”. Even though it hasn't been renewed yet, scripts for a second season are in progress.

However, on the subject, Neil Gaiman, the producer and creator of the comics “The Sandman”used his Twitter to explain that the issue is the high amount invested, necessary, to keep a series like this on the air. ''The reason is that Sandman is a really expensive series. And for Netflix to free up money for us to make another season, the series needs to do incredibly well. So yes, we have been on top for the last two weeks. But maybe it's not enough''explained Gaiman.

Recently, on August 19, the streaming platform surprised all fans with the release of a bonus episode after the premiere of season 1. This episode adapts two issues of the Sandman comics, the first being an animation titled “A Dream of a Thousand Cats” and the second a live-action, with the title “Calliopes”.

Being adapted as an animation that mixes 2D and 3D, the “A Dream of a Thousand Cats” directed and designed by Hisko Hulsing. Already “Calliope” is directed by Louise Hopper. The two directors were also responsible for the tenth episode of the first season of the long-awaited series, “Lost Hearts”.

Something interesting about the episode is the fact that it features special appearances, including names that are already working with Gaiman on the Sandman audiobooks released by Audible, such as: James McAvoy, David Tennant, Michael Sheen and Arthur Darvill. In addition, the cast also includes Sandra Oh, Melissanthi Mahut, Nina Wadia, Amita Suman, Nonso Anozie and Diane Morgan.
