Singer Bad Bunny will play the character El Muerto in a new Sony project

Singer Benito Antonio Marínez Ocasio, or as he is artistically known Bad Bunny, will be the newest member of Sony's Spider-Verse, giving life to the character El Muerto. The announcement was made during CinemaCon and, the information is from Variety.

'El Muerto' is Sony's newest project and is set to hit theaters on January 12, 2024. El Muerto, or Juan Carlos Estrada Sanchez in the comics, is a fighter with powers that are passed down from his ancestors in the form of a mask, giving him superhuman strength. In the comics, he has even faced Spider-Man himself in the ring.

During CinemaCon, Sony Motion Picture Group President Sanford Panitch announced the project featuring the first Latino actor to star in a live-action Marvel film. During the event, the studio also confirmed the sequels to “Venom” and “Ghostbusters.”

“Bringing El Muerto to life is just incredible… so exciting,” said rapper Bad Bunny. Sony owns the rights to adapt characters from the Spider-Man universe and this has already resulted in three recent films, namely: 'Venom', 'Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse', 'Venom: Let There Be Carnage' and 'Morbius', in addition to the 'Spider-Man' trilogy.

The sequel to 'Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse' hits theaters in June 2023, and Sony's other project, 'Madame Web,' is set to arrive on July 7, 2023, and 'Kraven: The Hunter' is set to premiere on January 13, 2023. And Sony's most recent Spider-Verse film, 'Morbius,' is currently showing in theaters worldwide. Although Sony's Spider-Man films have not been critically acclaimed, they have been popular with audiences, pleasing most of them and generating good box office numbers.
