“Wedding of the year” has a watch worth more than R$1.5 million as a souvenir

If there was one thing that was not lacking at Anant Ambani's wedding last Saturday in India, (13) it was luxury. The son of Asia's richest man, Mukesh Ambani, an oil and gas magnate, married Radhika Merchant in a ceremony surrounded by glamour and a lot of investment.

For the closest friends who attended the parties in Jamnagar, India, a not-so-mysterious gift: an 18-karat rose gold watch, valued at just over R$1.5 million.

Custom made model

For those interested in purchasing one of these “treats”, we have some bad news: it is not for sale. In total, 25 pieces were ordered from Audemars Piguet, a Swiss luxury brand. The model in question is a Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar, all in 18k rose gold called 'Luminary Edition'. The accessory has rose gold hands with black dials.

Although the model was made exclusively for the ceremony and has no market value, a similar model can be purchased in Brazil for just over R$1.5 million, excluding some fees, such as insurance.

According to the Chrono24 website, which specializes in luxury watches, the box that contained the jewel also has some gold details.

Wedding stopped the country and brought together celebrities

The union between Anant and Radhika had been making waves on social media for a few months now. With 11 pre-wedding events, including a luxury cruise and performances by the likes of Backstreet Boys, David Guetta, Pitbull, Katy Perry, Rihanna and Justin Bieber, the mega event culminated last weekend in a three-day gala.

The entire ceremony is estimated to have cost around US$600 million (R$3.2 billion), according to sources.

“The dates were strategically chosen between July 12, 13 and 14 on the advice of our pujari family who identified synchronistic times for our celebrations based on auspicious astrological alignments in both my and Anant's charts..”, Radhika told Vogue.

The event brought together politicians, athletes and celebrities among the guests. Personalities such as Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, Kim and Khloe Kardashian, John Cena, Nick Jonas and Varun Dhawan were present at what is considered the “wedding of the century”.
