Embed from Getty Images” alt=””>The Paris 2024 Olympic Games ended last Sunday (11) and speculation about the next ones is already in full swing. Possible logos for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics are all over the internet and new modalities have been officially approved, in addition to the cancellation of others.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) recently held a meeting in India and five new sports have entered the upcoming games for now: cricket, flag football, squash, baseball and lacrosse.

“The selection of these five new sports is in line with American sports culture and will introduce iconic American sports to the world while also bringing international sports to the United States,” said Thomas Bach, IOC President.

Boxing is being voted to be excluded from the 2028 games and the Modern Pentathlon is expected to have changes to its rules and events.

Cricket is played with wooden paddles and a ball, and the aim of the game is to score more runs than the opposing team. Flag football is similar to capture the flag, but the rule is to remove a ribbon (flag) that is attached to a belt worn by the opposing team.

Squash also uses rackets. The two players stand on a rectangular court with four walls. The goal is to hit the ball in a way that the opponent cannot hit it. Among these, the best known is baseball. The goal of the game is to score points by hitting a thrown ball with a bat and then running around the four bases on the field. Finally, there is lacrosse, where teams of players must throw a rubber ball into the opponent's goal using a bat with a net on the end.

Boxing should be left out because there is a political crisis and financial scandals at the International Boxing Federation, while the Modern Pentathlon should undergo changes to improve the comfort of the participating horses.
