Covid-19 vaccine could help patients with heart failure

A revolutionary study presented at Heart Failure 2024, an important scientific congress of the European Union Cardiology Society, has shed light on a stunning discovery: people with heart failure who received the Covid-19 vaccine are 82% more likely to live longer compared to those who were not immunized, which corresponds to a 47% reduction in hospitalizations.

Importance of the Covid-19 vaccine for patients with heart failure

Previous studies have already highlighted the safety and effectiveness of the Covid-19 vaccine, especially in individuals with cardiovascular diseases. A recent study used data from the Korean National Health Insurance Service to analyze the impact of vaccination on patients with heart failure. Covering a large sample of patients, the research highlighted the benefits of vaccination, offering a detailed comparative analysis between those vaccinated and unvaccinated, controlled by several variables.

Reducing Risks with Vaccination

The study presented encouraging results: vaccination was associated with a significant decrease in the risk of death from all causes, hospitalizations for heart failure and Covid-19 infections. Furthermore, there was a reduction in the risk of serious complications such as stroke, heart attacks and other thromboembolic events, compared to the unvaccinated group. The study analysis included the participation of 651,127 patients aged 18 or over. Among the patients analyzed, an impressive 83% were vaccinated against Covid-19, while 17% did not receive the vaccine.
