Casino Royale reveals why Henry Cavill wasn't cast as James Bond

Previously, the actor Henry Cavill revealed that he had already done tests to bring James Bond to life, during the selection process for the film “007: Casino Royale“. At the moment, the director Martin Campbellresponsible for the 2006 film, gave an interview to British newspaper Express and shared his vision for the Bond character. Campbell highlighted the actor's age at the time, which ended up being a hindrance, but praised his “tremendous performance“.

“He looked great in the audition, his performance was tremendous“; said Campbell, who went on to say that Henry might have a chance to be cast if the British actor Daniel Craig I hadn't done the tests either. “If Daniel didn't exist, Henry would make an excellent Bond. He looked great, was in great physical shape… very handsome and chiseled. He looked a little young back then.”

In an interview with Josh HorowitzHenry commented: “Ultimately, that's what I was told, it was just Daniel and me, and I was the youngest option”, he adds “They obviously chose Daniel and I think it was an incredible choice. I probably wasn't ready at the time and I think Daniel did an amazing job in the previous films, so I'm glad they made that choice.”

Martin also explained that the actors who brought Bond to life generally signed a contract for three films, which takes place over a period of six years, according to the director. “Henry is 40 now, so when he finishes the third one he will be 50. Anything beyond that is two, three years for Bond. He's in good shape, he's a nice guy. He did very well on the test before, only, ironically, he was very young“, commented the director.

A new James Bond film is being produced as a “complete reinvention“. After some rumors, it was pointed out that the producers are looking for a younger Bond, someone in their 30s, causing Cavill to be discarded again: ironically, Henry doesn't have the right timing.

Daniel left the franchise after “007: No Time to Die”. The actor played agent 007 for 15 years, in five different films in the franchise. For Henry, the third season of “The Witcher” will be his last as the protagonist, as the actor will be replaced by Liam Hemsworthconfirming his starring role for two seasons.
