President Joe Biden said in an interview this Thursday (6) that, despite his prerogative, he will not pardon his son Hunter Biden if he is found guilty by federal authorities on charges of illegally carrying weapons.

A fight against drugs

This is the first time in American history that the son of a sitting president has been tried. Biden has expressed support for his son on many other occasions and now says he feels proud of his recovery from addiction. Hunter has previously denied all three allegations, although he has confessed to his struggle with alcohol and drugs.

“I was very clear: the president will not pardon his son”, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre had said in December. Now, when questioned by David Muirfrom the American television network ABC, whether he would rescind Hunter Biden's presidential pardon, the president said “Yes”. He also said he would accept the outcome of the process, currently underway in the state of Delaware.

This whole situation brought a distressing moment for the Biden family, as they relived the time when Hunter had to fight drug addiction, a period that followed the death of his brother, Beau. On Monday (3), with the trial still ongoing, Biden had declared: “I am the president, but I am also a father. Jill and I love our son and are so proud of the man he is today.”

President and father

As a father, Biden said he has boundless love for his son, trust in him and respect for his strength. He also stated that the family went through many problems, but Jill and I will continue to be there with Hunter, with our love and support.”he concluded.
