Britney Spears Deletes Instagram After Thanking Elton John for Musical Collaboration

Britney Spears has deleted her official Instagram account just hours after posting a thank you to Elton John for their upcoming collaboration. The 40-year-old singer said she is “overloaded” as he prepares to end his six-year hiatus from the music scene.

The track, titled Hold Me Closer, is a reinterpretation of Elton John's 1971 classic Tiny Dancer and will be released next Friday, August 26. The veteran musician surprised fans with a preview of the single during an impromptu performance at a restaurant in Cannes, in the south of France, earlier this week.

Britney Spears's appearance on Elton John's new track will mark her first music release in six years and her first release since her court-appointed conservatorship was dissolved last November after 13 years. In the now-deleted Instagram post thanking the British musician, the pop princess wrote about the possibility of visiting the UK to see Elton John and joked about inviting Queen Elizabeth.

“Since most say they are honored to know me so well and only want happiness for me, you can bet your bottom dollar that this collaboration will make my year,” she wrote. Addressing John, Britney added: “How cool is it to be a background voice in your song!!!”

In the comments, John replied: “I can't wait for everyone to hear what we've been working on.”

Although she has deactivated Instagram, the singer took to Twitter on Wednesday night (24) to discuss her feelings about the release.

“Okie dokie… my first song in 6 years!!!! It's so cool that I get to sing with one of the most classic men of our time… @eltonofficial!!!! This is a big deal for me!!!”she began.

The singer went on to say that she is “learning that every day is a clean slate to try to be a better person and do what makes me happy” and that she “Choose happiness today.”

Hold Me Closer will mark Britney Spears' first single since the release of Slumber Party in 2016. As has been well documented and reported by the international press, the singer met her new husband while filming the video that accompanies the track.

Britney had previously briefly deleted her Instagram last June, just days after her wedding to Sam Asghari.
