Popular Pharmacy Program makes new medicines available free of charge

Starting this Wednesday (10), the Farmácia Popular Brasil PFPB Program will make ten more medications available free of charge. The Ministry of Health added to the new medications those for Parkinson's disease, glaucoma, dyslipidemia (high cholesterol and triglycerides) and rhinitis.

More health and more savings

To collect the medication from popular pharmacies, you will need a photo ID, CPF and a valid medical prescription (private or SUS). Popular Pharmacies also provide geriatric diapers, and in order to collect the medication, the patient must either be over 60 years old or be a person with a disability (PCD). You will also need to present a medical prescription, medical report and certificate proving the need for use.

The main difference of the Farmácia Popular Program is the fact that, with these medications, several types of worsening of diseases that lead to hospitalizations or complications in a patient's clinical condition are avoided. As a result of free medication, there are greater savings in relation to the costs of hospitalizations in the SUS, and also less overcrowding in hospitals. In other words, both health and the economy end up having positive results.

Top rated program

This Federal Government program was very well received by Brazilian society. In a survey by Quaest, the program had an 86% approval rating, being the most approved among others, such as, for example, the 'Bolsa Família' program, the 'Desenrola' program and the most recent 'Pé de Meia' program.

With the longer life expectancy of recent years, it is very important to expand the availability of more medicines in the Popular Pharmacy Program, as more people have been using this benefit, which is demonstrated in the positive evaluation of the program.
