Taylor Swift wins Artist of the Year for the 7th time

American singer Taylor Swift was the highlight of the 2022 American Music Awards, winning all six awards she was nominated for. The artist took home the awards for “Female Pop Artist of the Year” and “Female Country Artist of the Year”, “Pop Album of the Year”, “Country Album of the Year”, “Music Video of the Year” and the main and most anticipated award of the ceremony, “Artist of the Year”.

Taylor Swift thus became the holder of the most achievements in the category, reaching her 7th victory. “I found that the more music I made, the more music I released, the happier I was.”. Taylor explained after receiving one of the awards.

Singer joins select group

The 50th edition of the American Music Awards took place in Los Angeles, United States. With six wins, Taylor Swift broke her own record and now has an incredible 40 awards. She also won the “Artist of the Decade” award and joined big names such as The Beatles, Elvis Presley and the king of pop Michael Jackson. “This album is a re-recording and I can't tell you how much this award means to me. So many people participated in the creation of this album, it took hours and hours of recording. I would like to thank each and every one of you who enjoyed and followed this journey. Thank you (…) I have to thank the fans, essentially, for my happiness.” She said in gratitude to her fans. It is worth mentioning that on the 12th the artist had already dominated the EMAs awards.

Boos for Chris Brown and Anitta becomes the first Brazilian to win an award

Brazilian Anitta also stood out at the ceremony, winning the category of 'Favorite Latin Female Artist', and thus being the first Brazilian to achieve this feat, she dedicated the award to Brazil and her fans. At another point during the event, when singer Kelly Rowland announced that the winner of the category of 'Favorite R&B Male Artist' was singer Chris Brown, part of the audience booed, forcing the singer to intervene and ask people to calm down. Even though she was not present, Rowland made a point of thanking the singer and declaring her affection for him.

The award ceremony took place at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, United States and was hosted by comedian and actor Wayne Brady. The criteria for choosing the winner was through voting.
