Princess Maker 2: Regeneration – Creating Princesses

Get ready to raise your dream princess – or, more realistically, tackle a routine that makes even babysitting seem exciting!

Before Super Mario create your own levels in Super Mario Makerthe gaming world already had Princess Maker. And, look, these two games only have in common the “Maker” in the name and the fact that both can make you pull your hair out, but it’s a funny comparison, isn’t it?

Back in the 90s, Gainax studio, the same one that brought Neon Genesis Evangelion to the world, decided to kick the gaming corner and launched Princess Maker 2a life simulator where you raise a daughter until she becomes an adult. It may sound strange, but boy, has this game gained a cult following of dedicated fans. And now, with Princess Maker 2: RegenerationBliss Brain has brought this relic back, proving that some things age like wine… and others like milk.

Reliving the Past: What's New?

Let's be honest: Princess Maker 2: Regeneration It’s not exactly a complete makeover, but more of a “wig-up” of the original. They took the 2004 remaster, polished it up, added an animated intro, new art for special events, an art gallery, and voila! But if you peel away that layer of shine, you’ll find the same game from 1993, with all its glories and flaws intact. It’s like when Disney makes live-action versions of its classics: the exterior may have changed, but the meat is the same. It’s all really cute, it feels like you’re playing something from the old PC Engine, but in high resolution.

Here, you play as a heroic knight who, after saving the kingdom (because that’s what knights do), is tasked with raising a heaven-sent daughter. And like any good father, you’ll spend the next few years of the game managing her life – from what she eats to what kind of princess (or soldier, or dancer, or… bandit?) she’ll become. There’s no instruction manual, but there’s plenty of room for you to make hilarious mistakes along the way.

Choices, Strategies and That Bitter Taste of Repetition

After spending hours deciding on your daughter's name (who never)date of birth, blood type (seriously, it matters!), the real game begins. And that’s when you realize that if raising a daughter in real life is complicated enough, here it’s like trying to do it while solving Tetris blindfolded. You can send her to work multiple jobs, give her gifts, adjust her diet to fit into that expensive dress you bought her – and as she grows up, the lifestyle options just keep getting bigger.

But despite all this freedom, the game ends up trapping you in a loop of repetitive actions. Sending your daughter to dance, painting, or martial arts classes may seem cool at first, but after a while, the routine sets in. It's like when you binge-watch a series and, by the tenth episode, you realize that all the plots are practically the same – only the costumes change.

Nostalgia with a Touch of Repetition – Welcome to Princess Maker 2

There's no denying that Princess Maker 2 has a nostalgic charm that has been attracting fans since the 90s. But let's be honest, the repetition is real. Each month, you'll plan your daughter's routine, trying to find the perfect balance between work, classes and leisure. But unlike The Simswhere you can simply send your character to work and wait for him to come back with money, here you will spend a good part of your time hoping that your daughter doesn't explode with stress or end up becoming a delinquent.

And speaking of which, the game doesn't make your life easy. Money is hard to come by, classes and items are expensive, and your daughter can fail miserably at certain jobs without the game explaining to you what you did wrong. It's like trying to win Dark Souls no tutorial – only instead of giant monsters, you face the harsh realities of being a parent without an instruction manual.

The Retro Side That Makes Your Eyes Sparkle (Or Almost)

If there is one thing that Princess Maker 2: Regeneration does well, it retains the retro aesthetic of the original. The graphics have been slightly polished, the interface has gained a sidebar to make it easier to view stats, and there are some cosmetic updates. But unfortunately, the new text font looks like it was lifted straight from an old IRC chat – not a pleasant sight.

On the other hand, replayability is high. There are more than 70 different endings, depending on the choices you make throughout the game. So, if you're the type of person who loves to try out all the possibilities, get ready for many hours of gameplay – or even months, depending on how much you enjoy living in a loop.

Pros:

  • Surprisingly deep simulation mechanics.
  • Retro visuals that offer a cozy experience.
  • High replayability with 70 different endings.

Cons:

  • Exhausting repetition that can discourage players.
  • Lack of clear explanations for game mechanics.
  • New visually unappealing text font.

Final Grade: 7/10

Princess Maker 2: Regeneration it's like that old photo album. In the end, the game It’s like that movie you love but know didn’t win any Oscars. It has its ups and downs, but overall it offers a nostalgic experience for fans of the original. If you’re looking for a deep, action-packed life simulator, here’s your chance to relive a classic. Just be prepared to accept the repetition as part of the charm—or at least as a test of patience worthy of a saint.
