Enegen acquires part of Petrobras in Brentech in a million-dollar deal

Petrobras announced this Wednesday (29) the signing for the sale of its 30% stake in Brentech to Enegen. The purchase price is R$10.6 million and was paid in full on the date. The company claims that the measure is in line with the decarbonization process of its operations, with investment priority for natural gas hydroelectric plants.

Control of actions

Brentech Energia SA has a single thermoelectric plant, located in Aparecida de Goiânia (GO). As Egenen already held 70% of the company's shares, control is now 100%. In a statement, Petrobras stated that there are no precedents to be followed. Furthermore, there are no company employees working for Brentech, as it is a minority stake.

Petrobras Strategy

According to the state-owned company, the way of obtaining energy from the plant managed by Brentech does not comply with the company's guidelines.

“As UTE Goiânia II is powered by diesel oil and without any synergy with our activities, the company does not adhere to Petrobras' strategy, which seeks integration and migration to a portfolio with a lower carbon footprint. As it is a minority stake, Brentech does not have Petrobras employees in the operation of the thermal plant. This disclosure is in accordance with Petrobras' internal standards and applicable legislation”the state-owned company announced in a statement.

The measure corroborates the state-owned company's sustainable changes in the market, improving its portfolio. In its Strategic Plan, released in 2024, Petrobras establishes in its model the reduction of fossil fuels by 26% by 2050.
