Rebeca Andrade could become Brazil's greatest Olympic medalist

Rebeca Andrade, who won bronze in artistic team gymnastics at Paris 2024 on Tuesday (30), already has two other Olympic medals from Tokyo 2021 (one gold on the floor and one silver on the vault). Now, the gymnast equals the number of medals held by Fofão and Mayra Aguiar individually. However, she still has the possibility of becoming Brazil's greatest Olympic medalist in history. The current record is held by sailors Robert Scheidt and Torben Grael.

Heroic conquest

Rebeca, just 25 years old, is one of the heroes responsible for bringing Brazil the unprecedented bronze medal in the Olympic artistic gymnastics team competition. Along with her, Flavia Saraiva, Jade Barbosa, Julia Soares and Lorrane Oliveira won, with determination, sweat and blood, the medal never achieved by the Brazilian Women's Gymnastics Team.

The victory came on the last jump, with Rebeca, and her magnificent score of 15.100. Brazil, until Andrade's jump, was in 6th place, behind the Chinese, Canadian and British teams. The Bronze came with great emotion, leaving the rivals without reaction.

This is the first medal in the event that Brazil has won in teams. However, it is Rebeca Andrade's third individual Olympic medal, and her first bronze. Rebeca is an Olympic champion in vault, and a silver medalist in floor exercise at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, which were postponed in 2021 due to the global Covid-19 pandemic.

With three Olympic medals won so far, Rebeca is part of a select group of athletes who have stood on the podium at an Olympics. In addition, she is also part of a group of multiple Olympic medalists. Rebeca Andrade's new achievement puts her on the same shelf as Fofão, a former volleyball player who has now become a coach, and Maya Aguiar, an Olympic judoka who is competing for another medal at Paris 2024.

Due to the possibility of competing for medals in other events, Rebeca has the chance to reach the historic mark of Robert Scheidt and Torben Grael, sailors and the greatest individual medalists in Brazil, with five medals each. The Brazilian athlete qualified for four individual artistic gymnastics events. This means that Rebeca will compete for a place on the podium in the floor, balance beam, individual all-around and vault competitions.
