Last Saturday (17) at Maracanã, Fluminense and Corinthians faced each other in the 23rd round of the Brasileirão, the teams paid tribute to presenter Silvio Santos, who passed away in the early hours of last Saturday (17), images of the owner of SBT were broadcast on the stadium's screens.

Silvio Santos was born in Rio de Janeiro, raised in Lapa, and when he was a child he supported Fluminense, but when he moved to São Paulo he became a Corinthians fan. He even recorded a carnival march, in the lyrics of which he said “Doctor, I'm not mistaken, my heart is Corinthians.”

The classic between the two teams was named by the CBF as “Clássico Silvio Santos”. The clubs entered the field with a banner with the following phrase: “The greatest Brazilian TV star. Our tribute to the brilliant Silvio Santos.”

The death of Silvio Santos

Silvio, passed away at the age of 93, in the early hours of last Saturday (17) at 04:50, according to the medical report, the cause of death was bronchopneumonia, inflammation resulting from the H1N1 influenza flu.

On July 18, the presenter was admitted to the Albert Einstein hospital to recover from the H1N1 flu, and remained hospitalized for two days. On August 1, the presenter was hospitalized again to undergo tests, according to information from the broadcaster's press office.

The owner of SBT was buried on Sunday morning (18) at the Israelite cemetery in Butantã, in São Paulo. There was no wake open to the public, as the family said it was a request from the presenter, who did not want his image to be exploited with sadness, but that the public remembered the owner of the trunk with joy.

The trajectory of Silvio Santos

Considered the greatest communicator on Brazilian television, he was a street vendor when he was still a teenager, the son of immigrants, and always stood out in everything he did. He started on the radio, where he did advertising, and when he finished the commercials, he was applauded by the audience present at the recordings.

Later, in the 70s, he started at TV Globo, buying the time slots for the auditorium program that he presented with great success. At a certain point, the Rio de Janeiro broadcaster wanted to hire Silvio, however, the presenter decided to buy his own channel.

In 1981, SBT (Sistema Brasileira de Televisão), the presenter's channel, went on air on Sundays, the Silvio Santos program always with an audience, starting at 11 am and ending at 11 pm with the owner of SBT throwing airplanes made of money into the audience, with the catchphrase “who wants money?”

The presenter recorded the last program on September 22, 2022, the programs that Silvio presented are under the command of his daughter Patrícia Abravanel.
