Florence Pugh is being considered for a role in Dune: Part Two

While the film “Dune” is in the running for the 2022 Oscar, the sequel “Dune: Part Two” is underway. Thus, the website Deadline reported that actress Florence Pugh (“Black Widow” and “Midsommar”) is being considered for a major role in the sequel.

The character in question is Princess Irulan Corrino, the eldest daughter of Emperor Shaddam Corrino IV. If the actress is confirmed for the film, Pugh will join the team, along with Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Zendaya and Josh Brolin, as well as, of course, director Denis Villeneuve. The British actress is currently filming “Oppenheimer”, a new production directed by Christopher Nolan.

The feature film “Dune: Part Two” is scheduled to premiere in theaters in October 2023.

With the 2022 Oscars approaching, actor Josh Brolin, a member of the cast of “Dune,” has expressed his dissatisfaction with the Academy. According to the American actor, of all the ten nominations the film received, one very important one was missing: Denis Villeneuve’s nomination in the best director category.

Brolin took to social media to express his discontent. In the post, the actor wrote: “It’s unbelievable, almost stunning and disconcerting, that Denis Villeneuve wasn’t nominated for best director. It’s one of those things that leaves you wondering. I don’t know how it’s possible to get ten nominations, and then the guy who did the impossible with the book gets left out. Everything is incredible, but then it leaves you with the feeling that this is a really f*cking stupid situation.”.

The film “Dune” is an adaptation of the science fiction novel by author Frank Herbert. The story revolves around young Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet), an aristocrat whose family agrees to control the desert planet of Arrakis, a highly valuable resource disputed by other noble families. The boy is forced to flee with his mother to the desert and joins forces with the nomadic tribes, later leading them due to his heightened mental abilities.

Herbert's work is known for being one of the most complex in the history of science fiction, and has also been adapted for the cinema under the direction of David Lynch, released in 1984.

Denis Villeneuve's film is now available on the HBO Max streaming service.
