Fernando Diniz debuts as coach of the Brazilian national team and Fluminense wins 2-0

On the afternoon of Sunday (9) the coach’s first game took place Fernando Diniz since his command over the Brazilian team was announced. Fluminense received Internacional at Maracanã and won the game 2-0, in a match valid for the Brasileirão. The goals of the match were scored in the first half. pipe opened the scoring in the 25th minute and Martinelli extended to 40 minutes.

Fernando Diniz was booed before the game started, in a post-game press conference the coach said he had not heard the boos, as he was in the locker room.

“I didn’t hear the boos because I was in the locker room, so I only heard the good part (laughs). I understand the fans and I tried to do things the best way possible, respecting Fluminense and the national team. I believe I made the best decision.”

The coach said he was right to accept the invitation from the CBF to be coach of the Brazilian national team until the arrival of the Italian Carlo Ancelotti. Diniz will train Fluminense and the national team at the same time, and that did not please many fans of the team from Rio de Janeiro.

Fluminense was superior during the match, took little danger from the opponent and won three more points. These factors turned the boos into applause at the end of the match.

Diniz took advantage of the press conference to refute the recent rumors that imply a bad atmosphere in the tricolor team.

“15 days ago, if people thought that the atmosphere was very bad in Fluminense, did they throw some magic dust and it got better? Support the things you (journalists) talk about, don’t get caught up in victories and defeats, do more of the same, stay in the curse of the result… I’m not one to lie. Bad environment never had. Why did it win? On the contrary, the atmosphere is so good that he knew how to get through this bad phase he is going through… I’ve been at Fluminense since 2019 and there’s never been a bad atmosphere. People are supportive, Marcelo is more and more integrated with the team”said Fernando Diniz during the press conference.

In the next game, Fluminense will face rival Flamengo, in Maracanã, for the 15th round of the Brazilian championship. The rubro-negro is in second place in the table, and the tricolor team is in fourth place.
